Fire Assessment for Biodiversity Conservation in Indonesia

Sekala is currently developing a spatial fire database that includes the geographic extent of Borneo, Sulawesi and Papua for the Nature Conservancy.

Under the auspices of this project, Sekala will compile available data on natural and human-caused fire occurence, current ecological system and fire regime conditions and relationships to fire-related threats associated with agriculture, fire use, poverty, fire and land managment policies and/or other threats.

It will also determine the vulnerability of conservation areas located on the islands of Borneo, Sulawesi and Papua to fire and fire-related threats.
