Based in Bogor, West Java, Telapak Indonesia was formed in mid 1995 by a number of NGO activists. It became a legitimate NGO on January 21 1997. Telapak has worked closely with the Environmental Investigation Agency to investigate illegal logging in Central Kalimantan and Papua.
